Look of the day: SNOW (HEY OH)

Sunday, February 24, 2013

I was away for a while. Not physically away away, first I was sick (wisdom teeth, yay!) and I also started working and needed a week or so to kind of make a schedule I could stick to. (I still haven't had a chance to catch up with half of the shows already held at fashion weeks, I've only seen Burberry - because of the show, both Marc Jacobs shows - because of the clothes, and Oscar de la Renta - because of Galliano; so I feel like I'm living in a completely different universe!)

Today, I decided to go outside (although reading a book under a blanket was much more desirable) and take some photos in the snow as it was snowing for the last couple of days in Croatia, once again.

I call this look 'Nerdy' because it reminds me of school, it's totally low key, but still, I really like the vibe. Mixing different materials has always been one of my favourite things when it comes to picking out an outfit.

I'm wearing:
Handmade shirt and coat (by my tailor), Benetton sweater, Zara skirt, Humanic boots, H&M bag,  Rings and tings necklace

Look of the day: UNDER THE BRIDGE

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Lemme tell ya something (this ghetto talk totally suits my today's shoot location) (so Imma use it) (yeah, your heard me) - okay, now serious. Today was not a really good day for me. To be realistic, it sucked. Big time.
My horoscope has been - hmmm, not positive - for, well,  a while now and somehow (although I never really believed in that stuff) it's so accurate for the last month or so that, whether I want to admit it or not (and I don't) - there is something in the position of stars that got us Aquarius' stuck in an on repeat bad mood kinda thing and whoever writes that bloody thing every day for a certain application of a certain book of faces writes it all like it is. (Am I making sense? No? Good. Today's the day)
When these photos were shot, I actually experienced only half of the drama for my day so I was a little bit happier than I am right now so the photos, in my modest totally non-biased opinion look kinda good. (Aaaand I'm writing like a psycho non-educated maniac)
Okay. To make it simple - I had planned a lovely trip that fell through. I'm heartbroken. Let's all raise our glasses for better times.

SUMMER DRESS DOWN

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

(boyfriends shorts and canvas bag - H&M, Accessorize hat)

There's this paradigm in fashion - once you step into the summer, you shall dress down.

It refers to fashionista round the world who, during the other three seasons dress impeccably, with thought and sometimes (and I will state, not so rarely) over the top. It's just the way it is, when you enter the fashion world you kinda sign that social contract where you agree to obey the one rule and one rule only - to be as individualistic, as unique, as different as possible. (Which, in Croatia, has its lovely perks - weird stares are my fav) In order to maintain the fashion aura, we sometimes wear heels to school/college/coffee dates in the middle of the day just to satisfy our need for that much-needed fashion kick. (Not many perceive this, but it's guaranteed that a fashionista's depression will be cured by wearing a silk Dries Van Noten skirt) (just like a normal human beign will tragicomically wear a hoody to make a statement to the world that, yeah, he/she is depressed today)
So, when it starts being hot as hell somewhere in the beginning of June, there is this silent agreement amongs fashionistas that kind of yells: (you get it - it's silent, but it's yelling) (oh I'm so funny) TAKE OFF THOSE 5 INCH HEELS AND OPT FOR CANVAS.
And I gotta tell you, no matter how delicious that may seem, it's not that easy to switch to the easygoing thing just like that. One day you're the perfect envision of chic and the next you're in flip flops. Hmmmmm.
How to be easygoing and get that dose of grunge (you know grunge's back? oh yeah, that'll be fun) without looking, well, like you've lost your fashion mojo altogether.
Well I don't think it's really something you can make rules for, but as I love making rules (and I love love love breaking them even more) I shall try no matter what:

1/ Leather sandals instead of flip flops - it's just that I really can't stand the sound of water-filled flip flops (you know that pluck-pluck pluck-pluck pluck-pluck sound)(just like some screwed-up animal) and whatever you wear, leather sandals always look insanely good and what's most important - it's easygoing. So Bingo!

2/ Hats - just buy as many as you can... canvas, cotton, big, small, patterned - perfect accessory, and yep, chic.

3/ Sunnies - if you have your perfect pair, don't take them off. If you don't, go and find your perfect pair. And then don't take them off. Even when it's 2am and you're dancing on the beach to Avicii's Levels - you'll just look 10x cooler.

4/ Shorts - my choice is light denim, but give yourself a chance to go a little nuts and opt for whatever you like, maybe even military? (cause that's back too, oh yeah) Wear with a simple white tee or a bikini, if you have the body and courage for it. And, of course, #3 ;)

5/ Mascara - sun's shining, make up's non-existent and you're way to lazy - just add mascara after the beach for a perfect night out. (For a perfect day, either use waterproof or none at all) (those times when you forget to take your mascara and remember just when you dipped in the water... let's say you won't be getting out of the water soon)

6/ Friendship bracelets - (or for that matter any other kind of colored bracelets) I took a trip to my lil sister's closet only to find stacks of pearls ready to be made into perfect little bracelets, no need to spend your hard-earned money on jewelry, it's better to invest that in cocktails ;)

But you know what? Although I was insanely happy with how I could dress it down (and that doesn't mean I didn't freak out from time to time because all of my favourite dresses were of no purpose for three full months) and it's actually quite easy to stop being bothered by fashion when it's all sea and fun 24/7, but I've been looking to fall more and more every day.
It's time to bring back those layers. I guess even the fashionistas can do easygoing only for so long.

XOXO,
Lucija

Look of the day: COUNTRYSIDE + GIVEAWAY

Thursday, August 16, 2012

When I got a gift from a London-based internet shop max c, I experienced quite a shock.
I've never been a fan of jumpsuits (although somehow I have a thing for those worn on the red carpet) and floral print was never something I gave much of a thought. (I think the only floral-printed garnment I posses is a white jacket with a pink print, but those are some big flowers there)
So when I opened my package one morning and saw a floral-printed jumpsuit, I was... hmmm... petrified. confused. shocked. thinking "what the hell am I gonna wear this with?!"
But after several hours/when I got back to it, I realized it is a perfect little piece for the beach. You know, a bikini, a jumpsuit and a hat. Maybe throw in some lovely canvas tote and you're all ready to catch some sun.
The problem was - the nearest beach is some 250 kilometers away.
So... I left the jumpsuit hanging on the door of my closet so I it's right there where I can always see it - a method I use when I can't think of an outfit to go with a garment - and an idea came up.
I wanted the whole look to be captured a little bit more editorial so we did it at the countryside and I'm quite pleased with the result.
Also, it was the first time in a very long time I put on my Converse - and now it seems I can't take them off.

Update: after two days in a row I spent wearing my Converse, my feet are killing me - I'm back to sky high heels

I think I have a new favourite photo from the blog - this last one is just captivating. I'm not saying this because I'm arrogant or egocentric, but because I would very much like to share what my idea of greatness is here on the blog and I always appreciate you telling me your favourite images are - it's fascinating how everyone has their own point of what the best capture was.

So for me, this is a great photo, because of the movement captured. When I do shoots for the blog, (usually it's with my friend Maja, but there are several people who step in from time to time) I keep it relaxed and casual and what we shoot in a short period of time is sometimes a great material for the blog, and sometimes I just store the photos on my PC and they never see the light of the day.
But with time, and especially on Pag where we had plenty of time in our hands, we happend to capture some really great things - what's really making me happy is that it was not staged or done intentionally, in this very right shot I was just checking if someone was coming and Maja captured it perfectly. Add a little Photoshop, and there you have it...

Look of the day: BLUE

I really don't like summer. It's finally here and I'm finally realizing that in only 12 months or less I managed to completely forget how much I dislike it. And if there was a level of how much you can dislike summer - I would do it like a boss.
Take today's outfit for example... It makes me go all minimalistic. How would have know that's even possible, huh? I guess I'm daydreaming about so much print it's impossible for me to wear it, too.

Look of the day: FLOWER DRESS

Sunday, May 20, 2012

I have a few things to talk to you about, but first let me again apologise for being away a lot. It's killing me to have to do it and I can't wait for the summer to start to shoot all day every day, and just do something I really enjoy. (Cause I sure as hell don't enjoy this insane pressure)

So, I finished high school on Friday, we had a big party that lasted all day and for some all night. (I couldn't walk any more at about 10pm so I just went home and slept for 18 hours straight)
I can't believe it's really over - I've been talking about it with my friends for six months or so and the conclusion always has been "We still got time". And on Friday we all became aware that this huge part of our lives is over. I don't know whether I'm excited (you know, to be able to sleep and stuff + this summer's gonna be the longest up till now) or totally freaked out (my finals start on Wednesday) or sad because of all the people that made my four years in high school a beautiful experience. I met some of my best friends there - two of which sat next to me for the last four years. I will definitely miss grabbing coffee after school, flipping through pages of Vogue during certain classes, constantly laughing at someone or something, frenemies... You know, all those little things that make life great.
To my classmates - I know you're reading this - I love you all.

Now about the dress. I know you want to know about the dress. It was actually a gift from my dad who took me shopping last week to relax a bit. (I also got a beautiful parka I'll show you really soon!)
It was the first thing I grabbed when I entered the store, I have a special radar for pink stuff and you've already seen how much I love long dresses - so there you have it, pure magic.
I decided to play in photoshop to get a certain retro soft look. Love all the blue shades in the photos!
